Ruffled and Layered Faux Bed Skirt Tutorial

Ruffled and Layered Faux Bed Skirt Tutorial

Sew a bed skirt the easy way.

I actually cheated with this bed skirt. I made this bed skirt for my daughter's room. Since her bed is placed right against the wall, I made a bed skirt just long enough to cover half of the bed (one long and one short side of the bed) which is not right beside any of the walls.

And besides, it does not even cover the bed frame. Basically, it's just a long skirt that is attached around the bed frame (ties, velcro, etc).

You will need:

(1) 130" x 14" continuous or joined fabric piece
(1) 130" x 6" fabric piece
(1) 102" x 4" fabric piece
(10) 12" x 1" piece (folded, ironed and sewed as if a bias tape)

Directions:

Hem one of the longer sides of two fabric pieces (130" x 14" and 130" x 6")

Place the 130" x 6" fabric piece over the 130" x 14", right sides up. Align the raw edges, fold the short sides of both pieces twice under as if hemming and sew straight stitches. Do the same to the other short side.

Sew basting stitches all throughout the entire length of the fabric.

Get the other fabric piece (102" x 4") and align the raw edges of the longer side of both fabric pieces (the skirt), right sides together. Fold 1/4" of the short side, as shown below.

Sew straight stitches while manually creating and feeding the pleats 1/4" away from the raw edge. If you are not sure about the pleats, you can gather beforehand the skirt piece and pin it before sewing.

Fold the band fabric piece as shown below.

Sew close by sewing the short side and all throughout the entire length of the skirt, as shown below.

I also sewed straight stitches on the folded top side of the band.

Attach your sewn bias tapes where necessary.

Now, you have a bed skirt - the easy way!

Tie the sewn bias tapes to the bed frame and enjoy your new bed skirt!

I hope you liked today's tutorial!
